Boston, MA - $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 479 The Lincoln NB Ch. # 2846
A beautiful note from one of the very scarcest of all Boston banks, an institution which issued Brown Backs only before disappearing in the great bank merger of 1898. Tonight's offering, which is one of only five pieces in the census, is the only $10 reported from this charter and is a note that is making its first public appearance. It is also easily the finest of the five notes extant as none of the other pieces grades above the Fine-Very Fine level. This note appears to have never really circulated as its colors and pen signatures are as bold and vibrant as when they were applied over a hundred years ago. Rather, this piece has acquired just some storage folds and the tiniest of edge splits, which truly affect nothing. PCGS Very Fine 35, a great Boston note.
