Portland, ME - $10 1902 Date Back Fr. 616 The Casco NB Ch. # (N)1060
Although slightly over a dozen large size are known from this Portland bank that closed its doors in 1915, almost all are $5 Brown Backs, with this being only the second $10 Date Back to surface. It easily becomes the finest note known overall and based on a rubber-stamped "Asst." under the cashier's signature and a carefully handwritten "Vice" under the president's signature, it likely was set aside as a treasured souvenir by one of those officers. It is a beautiful note with ink colors as fresh as the day they were applied, bright paper, and deep, original embossing. Any evidence of handling cannot be found through the holder of this piece that will certainly be treasured as well by its fortunate new owner. PMG Choice About Uncirculated 58 EPQ.
