    One of Two Known

Maysville, KY - $2 Original Fr. 389 The NB of Maysville Ch. # 1702
This is the first of a truly amazing offering of notes from Maysville, a small community located on the Ohio River midway between Cincinnati and Huntington, West Virginia. Many of the surviving Brown Backs and Red Seals on this community come from the collection of Julian Marks, whose holdings were dispersed by Abe Kosoff in one of his last public auctions in 1971, others in this collection came from the Martin offering, and some came from private sources, but this is one of the most outstanding single city groups we have ever seen, covering all of Maysville's four issuers. This is the first note in a simply extraordinary pair, which offers both of the known survivors from this bank, which lasted less than two years before liquidating in January of 1872. By 1910, just $720 was outstanding from here. Notes such as this personify real rarity, and generations can go by before the opportunity to buy even one example from such a bank. It is only when truly great collections are dispersed that opportunities like this arise. Very Good.
