First Charter $50- Unique for the Bank

    Louisville, KY - $50 1875 Fr. 444 The First NB Ch. # 109
This was Kentucky's first bank to receive its national charter, and this note is an appropriate piece to open the Gale collection offering of notes from Kentucky's largest city, an array of rarities that is easily the finest grouping of Louisville notes ever offered in one auction sale. While notes from this institution are hardly difficult to find, the Gale collection contains a First Charter fifty, a $100 Brown Back, the nicest $10 Red Seal in the census, and an unreported $20 Red Seal which is unique for denomination and type from here. Fortunately for collectors, this is an absolutely natural and unmolested piece which is utterly problem free for Fine-Very Fine grade. The colors are vivid, the inks bright, and the overall appearance is of a note much closer to the higher grade here than the lower.
