Lexington, KY - $100 1882 Brown Back Fr. 520 The Lexington City NB Ch. # (S)906
This rare note traces its pedigree back to the Amon Carter, Jr. collection, then to the Glenn Martin collection, and now to the Gale holdings. It is one of just three $100 Brown Backs known from Lexington, two of which are offered in this collection. It's rare to see even one $100 Brown Back in most sales, two is most unusual, and three or more is virtually unheard of nowadays. When this sale is history, it is highly unlikely the current generation of collectors will ever see a state collection offered which has a higher percentage of First and Second Charters, high denominations, and one or two of a kind items. Fine.
