Unique Havre de Grace $50 Red Seal

Havre de Grace, MD - $50 1902 Red Seal Fr. 664 The First NB Ch. # (E)3010
This $50 Red Seal is one of the key pieces in the Watts holdings. Its one of only 102 $50 Red Seals recorded from all banks in the country combined, according to the National Bank Note Census, and one of only five from the state of Maryland, and the only one from outside of Baltimore. It has a distinguished pedigree as well, having been the highlight of Bob Cohen's Maryland collection during the 1970's. When Bob moved to Hawaii and sold his Maryland holdings, it made its only public appearance in the 1982 Hickman & Oakes Memphis sale, where it fetched the princely sum of $1,500 before being obtained by Marc some years later in a private treaty sale. This is a wonder note in all respects, combining rarity and grade in equal measures, with great color, signatures and eye appeal. If any note has the potential to bring a runaway price this evening, our pick would be right here. PMG Very Fine 30.
