One of Three Notes Reported - First Public Offering Since 2003

Geneva, NY - $1 Original Fr. 380b The First National Bank Ch. # 167 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25.
This is a great note from one of the most difficult upstate New York communities from which to obtain a National Bank Note. Geneva was the host to two note-issuing banks, both of which issued only the high denominations during the Third Charter Period before they both liquidated shortly after World War I. Consequently, notes from either charter are exceedingly difficult to locate. Tonight's offering is one of three notes in the census (as opposed to a mere five from the other bank in town). More importantly, of that trio, only this Original Series ace has been offered publicly in almost 50 years. Its first appearance was in a 1972 Stacks sale and then, subsequently, in our 2003 Long Beach auction where it was obtained by our consignor. It is a most attractive example for the grade with vibrant color and dark pen signatures. A few minor edge splits and tears have been noted by PCGS but they hardly detract at all from this rare Ontario County note. It presents a great opportunity for today's generation of collectors to finally obtain a note from this tough Finger Lakes Region community.
