    Description

Serial Number 1 Eads, CO Small Size

    Eads, CO - $20 1929 Ty. 1 The First NB Ch. # 8412
Serial number A000001A, the top note on the first sheet sent to this Kiowa County bank. Eads was established as a railroad town, and was named in honor of James B. Eads, a celebrated civil engineer who designed the first road and rail bridge to span the Mississippi River. The bridge, which connects St. Louis, Missouri and East St. Louis, Illinois, is still in use nearly a century and a half after its completion. The centering on both face and back leaves little to be desired, and we can not imagine why this pretty number 1 example is not in a Choice holder. PCGS New 62.
