Clifton, AZ - $20 1882 Value Back Fr. 584 The First NB Ch. # (P)5821
This Greenlee County bank operated from 1901 through 1923 before the receiver arrived in this eastern Arizona town. For nearly twenty years from 1984 to 2004, no notes from this bank were offered at public auction. While a few have been offered since 2004, it is not known when the pieces that are already tightly held by collectors will be seen again. This piece is a most pleasing Very Fine, with a bold blue overprint, ornate signatures and bright paper. The margins are a touch uneven and a result of the sloppy work of cutting the note from a sheet by a bank employee. Most recently a $20 Value Back in VG realized more than $14000.
