Lovely Oakdale Number 1 Red Seal- First Public Offering

Oakdale, CA - $10 1902 Red Seal Fr. 613 The First NB Ch. # (P)7502
Although listed in the census (where it is the sole serial number 1 example of any kind from this Stanislaus County bank), this piece has never previously been offered to the collecting public, as it had remained in the custody of members of the Rodden family (two of whom signed this Red Seal) since the day it was printed in 1905. It's one of only about two dozen serial number 1 Red Seals extant from all banks in California combined, and a real beauty at that. (Interestingly, the Kelly census indicates that not one of the 27 examples recorded grades uncirculated). This example bears no evidence whatever of any real circulation, but has acquired a few storage folds over the years, leading PCGS to assign a grade of Very Fine 30PPQ, a testament to the note's screaming originality. If rarity and desirability are any guide, expect this beautiful number 1 Red Seal to easily reach and perhaps well exceed...
