This is an extraordinary Territorial rarity, both from New Mexico Territory as well as from the nation at large. The latest census reveals only nine $100 Territorial Brown Backs extant from all territories combined, including this example. Of that number, one is listed without a grade, two are graded Very Good, and two either Good or Good-Very Good. Fortunately for collectors, this piece is a happy exception which is arguably the second finest known Territorial example of its type and denomination. It is a hugely margined specimen, with bold colors, superb eye appeal, and sharp signatures, and displays only minimal amounts of circulation for the grade. It has been off the market for several years, and its appearance here offers a new generation of collectors the ability to add this wonderful and rare note to their holdings.
