Description

Excessively Rare Uncut, Unstamped & Unpunched Postal Note Pair

Lafayette, IN- Uncut Postal Note Pair
This is an extraordinary uncut pair of first issue Postal Notes from Lafayette, Indiana. It is signed by the local Postmaster, and made out in the amount of 1ยข for each note, with each payable in New York, New York, but it is unstamped with an issuing date and the amount and date are not punched out on either note. We strongly suspect that this pristine pair was obtained as a collectible by an astute collector who wanted an unmolested and unmarked pair. We know of no other uncut pairs save for a couple from Portland, Oregon that were briefly on the market and were quickly absorbed into collections. This pair comes from the California Proof and Specimen collection, and is the only stamped and unpunched pair we know of.
