Second Liberty Loan Converted 4 1/4% Gold Bond of 1927-42 $100 May 9, 1918 PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
The Second Liberty Loan paid 4% interest. In order to receive a bond of the type in this lot, the bearer needed to convert it to the 4 1/4% interest rate that was applicable with the Fourth Liberty Loan bonds. This "short" or temporary security bond has all four of its interest coupons. After two years, this instrument could be exchanged for a "long" format bond. This is an exceptionally preserved bond with the embossed Treasury Seal so bold that the individual stars can be counted. The Joe I. Herbstman Collection of American Finance
enumerates only four known examples of this particular bond.
