Oklahoma, early statehood "Qualification of Surety" for a Chickasha landholder, sworn before U.S. Marshall E.M. Payne June 8, 1908. This is a partly printed and filled in document (Form No. 597) has a letterhead of "United States of America // Indian Territory," but since it was used after statehood was granted in 1907, "Indian Territory" has been overwritten "Okla." The land owner owned five blocks and two houses in the town, and claimed a net worth of $2,500. The Payne family was very influential in early Oklahoma, as "Boomers" and large land holders, themselves. Payne County in the state memorializes their contributions. This document measures approximately 8.5" by 7", and has Payne's embossed seal as "United States Commissioner." Document has a center fold. Condition is Excellent.
