Numismatic Ephemera - 1845 Letter from Henry Ellis, British Museum, Discussing Early New England Bills of Credit.
A unique four-page, hand-accomplished letter, small quarto on laid paper sheets. The two sheets are rim mounted. This letter is from Sir Henry Ellis, British Museum, Nov. 27, 1845, and primarily cites a contemporary extract by Robert Gamble concerning Colonial New England monetary policy and paper money in 1713. It has unusual content and was originally purchased from Goodspeed's Autograph Department, Boston, with their green document folder included (scuffed, right edge worn including tears, front and verso split at left.) The rim mounted sheets are not graded. They are readable on both sides and are in nice condition. This lot includes a typewritten transcription of the Gamble text extracted and cited and will be a useful research tool for Colonial note collectors. The individual pages and the folder are counted as one item each. This item is not graded. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
