    Description

Goldfield, NV- Promissory Notes Payable to The Nye & Ormsby County Bank Thirty-seven Examples
The Nye & Ormsby County Bank was founded in Manhattan, Nevada in Nye County in 1906. Economic fallout from the San Francisco Earthquake led to a failure of the bank shortly after it opened its doors. The ruins of the bank, including the safe doors are still visible in Manhattan to this day. The bank appears to have had ties reaching into neighboring Esmeralda County where Goldfield is located. This small town, not too far from the California border in southeast Nevada, is one of legend, hosting Wyatt and Virgil Earp. Virgil served as Goldfield deputy sheriff from January 1905 until his death in October of the same year. At its height, the town population was the largest in the state at nearly 20,000 residents; large enough to also host a national bank. Today, just one National Bank Note is known from Goldfield, so this is one of the few chances to buy a piece of Goldfield banking history. The promissory notes are on the average fully Uncirculated or better and all are remainders. The final example has some soiling on the back. There will be no returns accepted on this lot for any reason. (Total: 37 items)
