DescriptionFort Wayne, IN- Hamilton National Bank Check 1879-1880 Proof Seven Examples.
This bank was charter number 2439 and operated from 1879 to 1917. The first two Proofs are single impressions of checks on card stock that use the vignette found on Confederate T17 notes. The next five Proofs use a portrait of Hugh McCulloch who was a cashier and president of the Fort Wayne branch of the Bank of Indiana and next president of the Bank of Indiana from 1835-57. He was the first United States Comptroller of the Currency from 1863-65 and later served two terms as Secretary of the Treasury. McCulloch's portrait can be found on Series 1902 National Bank Notes. The first McCulloch item is a single impression Proof with 9 POC, next a 1.5 impression Proof pinned (pin is present) to a four impression Proof, and finally two four impression Proofs on card stock with one almost severed in half horizontally. These Continental Bank Note Proofs are not graded. Items have the typical look for this type of material from this era with all having hand-writing and tears. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
