Discharge Pay Form - Simon B. Hill, Co. B, 10th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry August 28, 1862 Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
The 10th Massachusetts was mustered in as a three year regiment on June 21, 1861. It fought in a number of major engagements and campaigns including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Cold Harbor. The unit was mustered out of service on July 6, 1864. Period military records show that Simon Hill enlisted on August 29, 1861 and was placed in a field hospital during May-June, 1862. At some point in July-August, 1862 he was transferred to a hospital in Philadelphia, and on August 26, 1862 he received a disability discharge due to a diagnosis of epilepsy. This document, dated August 28, 1862, details Hill's final service and travel pay (to return from Philadelphia to Boston.) Hill passed away in 1890 at the age of 49. There are three large edge tears on this very nice document.
