    Description

CDV Photograph of General George H. Thomas.
George Thomas is generally considered the most underrated of all Civil War generals from either side. There are a number of reasons for this: the single most significant is that he spent his entire career in the Western Theater of the War, which received very little press coverage in the major eastern cities. Although he was almost entirely successful throughout the War, he earned the nickname of "Rock of Chickamauga" for saving the Union Forces in that battle. There is no back-mark on the photograph which generally indicates that the image was pirated by a lesser known producer. "Gen Thomas" is pencilled on the back.
