Description1893 World's Columbian Exposition Admittance Tickets with Rare Caxton Envelope.
A set of the famous Caxton Co. admission tickets to the exposition, including one each of the tickets bearing the portraits of the Indian Chief, Columbus, Lincoln, Franklin, and Handel along with an original envelope from the Caxton Co. Also included are a Good Only on Day of Sale 3/H ticket, a "Children's Special Ticket," a regular and child's ticket with attached stubs for the Chicago Day on October 9, 1893, and a Manhattan Day October 21, 1893 ticket with an attached stub. The scarcer Franklin and Handel tickets are in this lot, while a Washington ticket is not included. All items are Choice Crisp Uncirculated, except for the envelope which shows paper loss around the edges. A wonderful grouping of these popularly collected items. The Caxton Co. of Chicago bought all of the unused tickets after the expo closed and then sold them as souvenirs in their own envelopes. These envelopes are seldom encountered in any state of preservation as they were often considered as a "throw away" at the time.
