    Macerated Advertisement

    Macerated Sales Item
A 6" x 3" printed form that reproduces a newspaper advertisement offering macerated for sale. Below the ad is a short note to the purchaser, "Your answer to the above advertisement is received and we herewith enclose the macerated money as advertised." It also shows a copy of an August 19, 1900 letter from Treasurer Ellis Roberts stating: "Currency has been destroyed by maceration since the year 1874. Prior to that date, it was destroyed by burning." The paper has two folds, apparently from being enclosed in an envelope along with the macerated. The company advertising the macerated was the Morgan Publishing Company of Chicago, Illinois. Part of the original ad states, "Bushels of fun" and "Get some and show your friends what a wad you carry."
