    Description

    Highly Literate Politically Incorrect Letter

July 26, 1862 Soldier Letter from Trenton, Gibson County Tennessee to Home in Henderson, Knox County, Illinois.
    H. L. Markham writes to his cousin Miss Sarah Markham. The content is typical talking about health, weather, potential end of the war etc. The key sentence is his low opinion of the South, "I cannot say that I like this country for I think it is unbearably hot weather that lasts so long here." "I tell you I could not be hired to live in this (n-word) country for all the wealth of a Croesus." He goes on to say how long it has been since he has seen a prairie and how he misses it. In excellent condition and contained in its original envelope. (Total: 2 items)
