$10 Check, Office of the Executive Committee of National Banks, New York, NY, 4/10/1865, VF-XF. An interesting and unusual check, or debit advice, charging the First National Bank of Cooperstown, New York $10.00, "being the sum assessed to your Bank by the Executive Committee towards defraying necessary Expenses". This organization must have been in existence to help the National Banks in some way and this was a charge to this bank for their share of the expenses incurred. An early and interesting piece of National Banking history needing further research and clarification.
