Fr. 63a $5 1863 Legal Tender PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.Beautifully margined, this note exhibits deep original embossing, ideal color, and not a hint of the edge problems that typically plague these early notes. Even the seal, which is often the color-Achilles-heel of this type, is bold red and completely printed. This gorgeous $5 Legal is tied with just two other pieces at 67PPQ by PCGS, and one at 68PPQ. None are graded above the "66" level graded by PMG. In the past five years, all three notes graded at this Superb 67PPQ level by PCGS have appeared at auction, and have realized between $18,000 and $23,500.
