    High-Grade Fr. 353 $2 1890 "McPherson" Note

Fr. 353 $2 1890 Treasury Note PMG About Uncirculated 53.
A striking 1890 Treasury Note that is difficult to find in this choice grade. Like most of the portraiture used on this series, it is Civil War-related. At the far right is Charles Burt's engraving of General James B. McPherson; the large brown treasury seal is at right center. The elaborate green back has a slightly arched TWO in the center. Choice or Gem Uncirculated notes of this type are quite expensive. This lightly handled example will fit into a high-grade type set beautifully. Mike purchased it decades ago from the Lyn Knight, May 1988 sale (lot 473). This lovely piece will be a prize in the next collection privileged to acquire it.
    From The Mike Coltrane Collection.
