Beautifully Margined, Handsome VF Example that is One of Only 20 Known for this Friedberg Number
Fr. 343 $100 1891 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 20
Net.A wholly respectable VF20 that has been net graded for, "Restoration." Close examination fails to spot any serious repair work, so we suspect the restoration is minor filling of edge irregularities to give the note a more wholesome appearance. It is the only 20 graded by either of the two services and is easily in the top half of the 20 known examples. A quick look at the Track & Price Census does not reveal that, but when one notes how many reappearances there are in the top five notes it is clear that this piece is safely in the top half. The overly large, stately portrait of James Monroe our fifth president occupies a large section of the left end of this rare and good looking note.
