Rare and Elusive 1886 $20 Silver

Fr. 315 $20 1886 Silver Certificate PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40.
Series 1886 $20 Silver Certificates are represented by only four Friedberg Numbers. The back design is one of the most attractive in United States currency and with fewer than 150 combined survivors from all four signature combinations, there is little wonder why these elusive pieces command such great premiums. As the second rarest of the four numbers, just about two dozen survivors are known with this Large Brown Seal, Rosecrans-Nebeker design. Perhaps four finer examples are known, and this piece rivals a couple of them in terms of eye appeal. Some minor restorations are noted by the grading service, but they are well executed and do not adversely affect the eye appeal.
