    Description

Stephen Decatur Portrait Type 1880 $20 Silver Certificate

Fr. 311 $20 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15.
This is a problem-free, evenly circulated example of this scarce 1880 Decatur Silver Certificate. Stephen Decatur, who was celebrated for his bold actions during the first Barbary War, was the youngest to attain the rank of Captain in the U.S. Navy at the age of 25. He later rose to Commodore, but died an unfortunate death after being wounded in a duel in 1820. With its decent margins and strong color, it would be a perfect candidate for a mid-grade type set.
