PMG 40 EPQ 1880 Twenty Dollar Silver Certificate

Fr. 310 $20 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Extremely Fine 40 EPQ.
Forty-eight notes are listed in the Track & Price census, many of which have crossed the auction block. Somewhat strangely, this note will be the first premium quality piece to have been auctioned in any grade. To our eye, the 40 grade seems quite conservative, as we can only spot a single light fold and that is hardly a distraction on this bright and fresh note. 1880 Silver Certificates have quite attractive designs which are not usually apparent as the paper is generally quite drab. With fully bright paper such as this note has, the brown overprint on the front, and the black ink on the back truly "pops." An extraordinary example.
