Well-Balanced Black Back Silver Certificate - One of Under 60 Examples Known

Fr. 309 $20 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Very Fine 25.
On close examination, the grade seems accurate, but at a glance, the note is far brighter and more attractive than one would expect for a PMG 25. According to Track & Price, only 58 examples are known in total for all grades combined with the finest example to have reached auction grading 45. This piece is new to the census and will raise the total known to 59. The margins are not even but range from broad to unusually broad. The color is excellent for the grade and for a note that does not come better than XF at either service. This handsome Stephen Decatur Double Sawbuck will make a very nice addition to someone's collection.
