Fr. 296 $10 1886 Silver Certificate CGA Gem Uncirculated 65. We sold this beautiful Tombstone once before as Lot 1647 of our September 1997 sale. At that time, we described the note as follows, "We believe this to be the most broadly margined, eye-appealing example of this very difficult type that we have ever had the pleasure of handling. The margins are beautifully broad and balanced all the way around on both sides, and the surfaces and colors are extraordinary. Only thirty-six pieces are listed for this number, and of those only ten are listed as being uncirculated. We've seen a half-dozen of those notes, and none can compare in beauty and technical merit to this spectacular piece of paper." At that time, the note realized $7700 on an estimate of $4500-up. Since that time, it was auctioned once again, and it realized over $9000. We would expect this significant Type Note to fare even better this evening.
