Beautiful 1880 $10 Silver Certificate
Fr. 289 $10 1880 Silver Certificate PCGS Apparent About New 53.Of the approximately 80 examples known, only two pieces have reached auction in a PCGS or PMG holder at a level above this lovely PCGS 53. Those notes included a PMG 64 that realized $34,500 in our April 2008 auction. This will be the third highest grade third-party Fr. 289 to sell at auction, and it is a beauty. The colors, margins, and eye-appeal are that of a perfect Gem, and the reason for the 53 grade is not visible to us through the PCGS holder. The Apparent grade was assigned for "minor edge restorations," that are utterly invisible.
