Rare Triple Signature Robert Morris Ten Dollar Silver
Fr. 286 $10 1880 Silver Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15.
We last sold this note in 2004 as a raw Fine with the following description, "Problem-free and solid for the grade, this is one of only sixteen pieces that we know of, three of which are permanently impounded. Of the remaining thirteen, only two are in substantially higher grade than this example. It is very well margined, with good surfaces and excellent color. The note is totally free of restorations or repairs. We've sold it twice before, first in our January 1996 sale where it realized $3,650 and then in September of 1997 when it realized $7,700. Only three examples of this number have reached the auction market in the past twelve years and opportunities to purchase a solid, problem-free Triple Signature Ten are rare indeed." At that auction, the note realized $6,325. The census has not changed since our description in 2004. PMG notes "closed pinholes" which we are unable to spot.
