Scarce Near-Superb $5 PortholeFr. 282 $5 1923 Silver Certificate PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ.
Fr. 282, the "Porthole" note is one of the most popular of all our currency types. With a Track & Price census of 1,631 notes in November 2012, they are certainly not rare, and there are a lot of them available. That all changes at the high end of the grade spectrum, with notes grading sixty-six or better very scarce and certain to always remain that way. This example realized $14,375 in its lone auction appearance in January of 2008.
