    Finest Known Fr. 279 Star

Fr. 279 $5 1899 Silver Certificate Star Note About New. A lovely example which is the finest known star example for this Friedberg number by a wide margin. It was auctioned back in 1995 by Christie's as Crisp Uncirculated, but there is a difficult to discern center fold that their then cataloguer failed to observe (apparently the grading of Old Masters is less challenging than the grading of US currency.) The note is otherwise fully uncirculated, and will fit perfectly into any ultimate star note set, as no finer Fr. 279 is known to exist.
From the collection of Richard Merlau.
