Description

Stellar Superb Fr. 274 Chief

Fr. 274 $5 1899 Silver Certificate PCGS Banknote Superb Gem Unc 68 PPQ.
One of the highest third party graded Chiefs you will ever find and a delightful beauty to behold. Excellent color on both sides kick off this well preserved $5 Silver's wonderful traits. Other traits observed are full margins, punch through embossing of both serial numbers, and even more embossing behind both the large blue "V" counter and the Treasury Seal. Track & Price lists only one Fr. 274 at this extremely high grade level by a major grading service and the note in this lot is that one. Also in Track & Price, not a single 67 for this Friedberg number is graded by a major grading service. We originally auctioned this Chief in April, 2014 and it went for $28,200 that night. As estimates do not always come easy, we would not be surprised if our estimate tonight is woefully inadequate for this stellar example. This note has been considered special for so long, that a winning bidder had the foresight to keep the paper coin flip auction tag from a November, 1954 Aubrey Beebe auction. Bebee graded it "G. Unc" then. That auction tag is included with this lot. (Total: 2 items)
