Sharply Printed 1896 $5 Silver CertificateFr. 269 $5 1896 Silver Certificate PCGS Gem New 66PPQ.
Nice, even margins surround the classic design on this $5 Educational. Although a $10 was designed and exists in specimen form, it was never released, making this the highest denomination of the three note series. Well-printed with sharp detail and exceptional color, this has the middle signature combination of the three $5 Eds. It is also the middle note for rarity with Track and Price reporting 756 examples compared to 1180 for Friedberg 268, and 443 for Friedberg 270. While certainly not rare in the real sense, this note becomes a rarity at the assigned grade level and will be hotly pursued this evening. In the last three years 66 PPQ Educational $5's have been selling between $15,000-$20,000. We would anticipate a realization right in that range.
