Scarce Superb $2 WindomFr. 245 $2 1891 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ.
"This is the slightly scarcer of the two Windom numbers and it's a real beauty. This is serial number 36, a note whose history can be traced all the way back to an Abe Kosoff price list of the mid-1950's. The note has gorgeous margins, impeccable color and ideal original surfaces with easily-seen embossing. This is one of the early Windoms that has the deep blood red seal that helps make these notes so attractive. A great piece of currency." That was the description we used when we sold this note in April 2006. PCGS clearly agreed with our glowing description as they graded the note 68PPQ. Windoms do come nice, but nice encompasses 65's and 66's. 68PPQ's will forever remain prohibitively rare. As of mid November 2012, PCGS has graded only three Friedberg 245's at the 68 PPQ level with none higher. This note realized $20,125 at our 2006 Auction, a number that should be easily eclipsed tonight.
