Near-Perfect Fr. 244 1886 $2 Silver CertificateFr. 244 $2 1886 Silver Certificate PCGS Superb Gem New 67PPQ.
A beautiful Hancock Deuce with blue serial numbers and a deep chocolate brown Large Spiked seal. This color combination has great visual allure, and the note has all the technical merit it needs to go along with its appearance. It has excellent original embossing, ideal paper surfaces and near-perfect centering of both sides. A lovely note fit for the finest collection. When we last sold this note in September 2006, it realized $13,800 and, according to Track & Price, it is still the highest graded example to have sold from either of the two major grading services. This is not surprising, as PCGS has graded only two at this level with none higher and PMG has not graded any 67 or above.
