    Description

1899 $5 Silver Certificate, Fr-279, Choice-Gem CU. Our grading tends toward the conservative side, so we will stick by our guns and not call this note a Gem. We are, however, tempted to do so, as the paper is fully original, crisp, clean, and has wonderfully bold colors and sharp corners. The original embossing is present, giving the note unquestioned status as an unprocessed note. The obverse centering is a trifle high for our tastes, and a Gem grade is stretching it, in our opinion. We do, however, challenge anyone to find a nicer example in terms of paper quality and aesthetic appeal. This note will certainly please its new owner, no matter what grade one assigns to it.
