    Description

Fr. 50 $2 1880 Legal Tender Superb Gem New. From our sale of the Malcolm Trask Collection, "This is the "D" position note from a gorgeous cut sheet of four that we offered individually to allow four different collectors the opportunity to acquire one of these beautiful notes. Fewer than 75 examples of Fr. 50 are known and these four beautifully margined, deeply embossed, strictly original notes are among the very best of them. It's always a tough decision as to whether or not to break up a cut sheet. The consignor, the bidders and the benefit of the hobby must all be considered." It's a close call in this case, but we'll go with four lots. Our recollection is that this "D" position note had the broadest margins of the four. A simply superb piece in every sense of the word.
