Fr. 41 $2 1862 Legal Tender Gem New. Far better margined than most examples of this type and with the brightest paper and ink colors that one can imagine. Malcolm Trask collected at a time (1945-1955) and in a place (New York City) where he had an incredible choice of material available to him. But there's more to forming a great collection than simply the availability of material and funds. It also takes a collector's eye. Malcolm Trask had that eye, big time. Decades before anyone else seemed to care about eye appeal and color, he selected the prettiest notes available. This Fr. 41 is one of the very nicest examples we've seen of its type. While the margins are not huge, they're well balanced and far better than what is typically seen for the issue. The colors are simply spectacular and the note has all its original embossing present, a feature that is almost universally absent on this type. Only when carefully formed old-time collections are sold, do today's collectors have the opportunity to add such virginally pristine notes to their holdings. The Trask Collection presents scores of opportunities; this gorgeous Fr. 41 is but one of them.
From the collection of Malcolm A. Trask.
