Lovely Large Brown Seal 1880 Fifty

Fr. 161 $50 1880 Legal Tender Gem New. A very minor counting mark at the upper right is all that keeps us from calling this gorgeous 1880 Fifty Superb. The striking "America" vignette that graces the right end of this beautiful type was engraved by Charles Burt, who likely also engraved the Benjamin Franklin Vignette that appears at the other end. This note is from the short run that has supplied collectors with almost all the high-grade examples of this type. It has perfect color, excellent margins, perfect back centering and all of its original embossing. It's a real beauty that will be certain to please its new owner. Recent sales of high quality examples of this number have clustered right around $25,000 and we would expect this striking beauty to do just about the same.
