DescriptionFr. 1225h $10,000 1900 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 20 Net.
These notes were used essentially as Certificates of Deposit by the Treasury Department and various financial institutions. All the examples that we have today are thanks to a fire that occurred on December 13, 1935 at the old Post Office building in Washington, DC. These notes were thrown out of the building windows and retrieved by citizens at street level who found, to their regret, that these were not redeemable. Virtually all examples are cancelled and many have water or fire damage. The good news on this note is that it does not have a perforation cancel; it is pen endorsed. The bad news is that it has been severed and rejoined with tape. PMG also mentions edge and internal splits.
