    Description

    Scarce Lincoln $500 Gold Certificate

Fr. 1217 $500 1922 Gold Certificate PMG Choice Fine 15.
While this $500 has spent a fair amount of time in circulation, it is a survivor, bearing only some slight evidence of its journey. It features a large portrait of Lincoln on the gold, red, and black face and a wonderful vignette of an American eagle with the Stars and Stripes in its talons on the orange-gold back. The Track & Price census lists 63 survivors. That any survivors are around for such a large denomination note is a minor miracle. PMG notes a couple of unobtrusive stamped numbers on the back as well as minor rust that is difficult to locate through the holder. This example's last public auction appearance was in 2017 when it realized $13,200. A similar realization is anticipated tonight.
