Very Rare Fr. 1201 -- One of Three Available to Collectors
Fr. 1201 $100 1882 Gold Certificate PMG Very Fine 25. This is a seriously rare number which is seldom seen on on the auction block. Only seven notes are known to exist, four of which are permanently impounded in the collections of various Federal Reserve Banks. There has been no Fr. 1201auctioned since this very note sold for $61,600 in December of 2000. This is the Grinnell note, first sold by Barney Bluestone on March 10, 1945. The note has great color, broad margins and the eye appeal of a piece in far higher grade. Prices for important rarities have been on the march over the last few years and show no signs of slowing down. We would not be at all surprised to see the eight year old price record for this note well more than doubled tonight.
