One of Just Six Examples Known

Fr. 1190 $50 1882 Gold Certificate PCGS Apparent Fine 15.
This was our description, the only time we offered this extremely rare note in January 2007: "Only five Fr. 1190s are known to exist, one of which is permanently impounded in the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Of the known notes, the highest grade example is an Extra Fine, which we sold in January of 1999 for $18,700. The other four pieces all grade Very Good or Fine. This note has some extremely minor, consummately well-done restorations at the outer edges, but it is free from internal problems. Needless to say, Fr. 1190 is a prohibitively difficult note to obtain in any grade." One more piece has been added to the census, bringing the total known to a scant six.
