Fr. 1177 $20 1882 Gold Certificate Choice About New. This spectacular Gold Certificate is tied with one other note for the second finest in private hands. There is one reported uncirculated note in the ANA Museum, and a second uncirculated piece that we sold in May of 1998 for $35,200. Other than those two, there is one other high-grade example known: another spectacular About New that we sold in September of 1997 for $18,700. This note is the equal of that piece for its paper and ink colors, and the margins are superior. It was previously lot 1563 from our offering of the fabulous Dr. Cookson Gold Certificate Collection.
