Fr. 55 $2 1880 Legal Tender PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.When we last sold this Gem in our 2010 April Central States Signature Auction we described it as follows: "Friedberg 55 and 56 make up the 1880 $2 small seal type, though the Friedberg 56 outnumbers 55 by a factor of nearly 4 to 1. In the Tom Flynn Collection in April of 2008, one of the two finest known examples of this number sold for $19,550. Since then nary a Gem has appeared at auction until tonight. This well margined beauty is vividly colored and is bound for the finest of Friedberg number type sets." Track & Price currently shows that Friedberg 56 outnumbers 55 by 6 to 1, shedding more light on the scarcity and desirability of this difficult type in this elusive grade. Where exactly the hammer will fall tonight is difficult to tell, but we expect this Gem to easily realize...
