PCGS XF 40 1890 Treasury Twenty with the Eye Appeal of a Choice New Note

Fr. 374 $20 1890 Treasury Note PCGS Extremely Fine 40.
A truly lovely example of what had been a classic rarity. A reasonably large number of consecutive uncirculated pieces came on the market in the late 1980s, making this note obtainable. Because the group was from a pack this number is easier to obtain in Choice and Gem grades than it is in pleasing mid grades. Through the holder this piece has the eye appeal of an uncirculated note and gives not a hint of the reason for the assigned grade. No doubt there are a few light folds, but once encapsulated they have become invisible. Only 124 examples are known in total and out of that number only four are XF 40s. We sold an identically graded piece for $9,000 in our Central States auction last April. This note should fall within a few thousand dollars of that.
